Phoenix Contract

Centuries after the fallen angels left heaven to live among humans, their Nephilim descendants dwell in secret, hidden from the modern world. Once, a charismatic leader known as the Phoenix led their people, but he vanished centuries ago. The few surviving Great Houses are in decline, bickering over petty rivalries while a handful of faithful warriors battle to keep the forces of evil at bay.
Eighteen-year-old Aiden McLachlan devotes her life to her studies and pursues her lifelong goal to become a full-fledged Watcher. But everything she knows of her life is a lie and everyone a liar. Through a strange twist of fate, she finds herself caught up in an ancient prophecy.

The stars predict the rebirth of the Nephilim leader, but the mystery must be unraveled or the Phoenix cannot rise. With a soul-eating demon, a coven of ancient vampires, and a hardheaded Celtic warrior competing to subvert the Phoenix, Aiden doesn't know where to turn or who she can trust.

He’d always had the worst of luck, and the day he died was no different.
Thrash stared into the chasm of space between the building roof and city streets, contemplating the eighty-story drop. It was a long way down. The city’s lights glimmered against darkness, millions of fluorescent stars. Surrender did not come easily to him, and it tasted bitter in his mouth. He’d spent his life training to fight, but what could he do against an enemy that could shape shift at will?
Six-foot-six and muscular in the manner of body builders, Thorton David Aston III or Thrash to his friends, was an albino. He was born without skin or hair pigment, his skin perfectly pale, his hair white. He rivaled the city lightscape for its clean brightness. He disliked the attention his condition attracted, so he’d cropped his hair short and dyed it metallic blue.
Thrash’s athletic body thrummed with tension. Perspiration beaded on his pale forehead and made his palms clammy.
The Soul Eater was coming for him.

“I won’t help you,” Matthew said, “no matter what you do to me.”
“Oh, but I think you will,” Daniel disagreed. “Once I turn you, then you’ll be more than happy to help.” Lightning swift, the vampire lashed out and seized Matthew’s wrist, forcing the priest’s arm down.
Matthew cried out in pain as Daniel squeezed his wrist until his hand opened and the crucifix dropped to the ground.
Aiden shouted and swung her crucifix around to protect Matthew, but she was too slow. Daniel dragged Matthew away and thrust the priest toward his minions.
“Hold him,” Daniel said.
Immediately, the carrot-topped boy and the policewoman caught hold of the priest.
Aiden expected Daniel’s attack, but that didn’t prepare her for the vampire’s speed. Daniel rushed her, progressing so fast his contorted face filled her vision. She kept the crucifix level and aimed for the vampire’s eyes, but Daniel caught hold of her wrist with disturbing ease. Then he twisted her arm, causing a wrenching pain in her shoulder. Against her will, Aiden bent over to avoid having her arm torn from the socket. She lost her grip on her crucifix.
“Let her go!” Matthew shouted. “She’s done nothing.”
Daniel immobilized Aiden, ignoring her struggles. He forced her head to the side and exposed her throat. “Oh, I don’t think so. I want you to suffer, Matt,” he said. “As a self-styled Lord of the Night, I’m rather pleased with the revenge I’ve concocted. So I’m going to eat your pretty daughter and make you watch.”

Book 1: Predator & Prey
Lily works the night shift at a radio station, taking calls from forlorn and damaged souls who can't sleep. She knows their pain and they find solace in her comforting words. The city is ruthless; nameless creatures roam the streets and prey on the lost and innocent.

As she leaves work one night at the crest of dawn, Lily comes face-to-face with depravity. She is a survivor at heart, but she is unfairly outnumbered and surrenders to her fate. From the shadows an ally emerges, the mysterious and alluring, Wolf. After coming to Lily's aid, he takes her to shelter.

The immediate danger has passed, but the incident is far from over. Wolf tells Lily she is not prey, and sets off into the night with her by his side to set a wrong right. What she sees when entering the dark heart of the city will change her existence forever. Has Wolf taken on a force too big? Will Lily survive the night?

Book 2: Beast
It has been days since Lily killed the vampire responsible for her brutal attack. Now she and Wolf have been summoned by the Society to answer for her actions. Standing before the Regent, she learns she has tipped the human and supernatural scales. A new vampire is required to restore balance.

When she hears the penalty for her crime, Wolf protectively steps in and accepts a dangerous task in exchange for her freedom. He must find the rogue vampire who has been slaughtering citizens in their territory or risk losing Lily to the Society. And he only has days to do it.

As the night of reckoning fast approaches, Lily finds an unlikely advocate in a centuries-old, seductive vampire named Athene who gives her an ominous warning. Athene knows secrets about Wolf she won't divulge, which only complicates the mysterious revelation Lily has recently discovered about herself.

Screams, growls, and cries echo throughout the darkest, desolate streets of the city. The final showdown determines who is predator and who will become prey. One thing remains certain-no one escapes the night unscathed.

Beast is the much anticipated sequel to Predator & Prey by James D Horton.

Book 3: Control
Two weeks have passed since Lily became a vampire and things couldn't be worse. She is starving, out of control, and Wolf has vanished. Her maker, Athene, is patient, but fails to help Lily tame the beast within. After Lily's introduction to Society goes horribly wrong, she is sent to train with Griogar, a narcissistic vampire with questionable tactics.

A powerful member of Society, John Genosoa, has secretly arranged for Wolf's mate to return. The distraction works. Wolf and Luna's reunion is passionate, yet laced with memories of insurmountable loss. Even so, neither is able to refuse the animalistic magnetism drawing them together.

When Lily reaches a new low during a session with Griogar, Wolf reappears. She's furious, but vulnerable to his charm and follows him beneath the City. Lily finds out Wolf has spent ages chasing a legendary tale of transcendence and discovers who has been keeping him away.

Lily is forced to put aside her heartache when Genosoa's plan threatens the City's inhabitants. Genosoa's magic is strong, but not strong enough to keep the existence of vampires a secret from humans. He needs souls to sacrifice.

Wolf, Lily and Luna are dispatched by the Keeper and must act fast to stop the killing of innocents. Screams of agony and a scene of destruction greet them, but they are confronted with a much more sinister obstacle and it's too late to turn back. What begins as a battle turns into an all-out war for their very survival.

Ancient histories are told, myths are revealed and dangerous paths are taken in Control , the highly anticipated third installment in the Predator & Prey series by author James D. Horton.

The Darkest Faerie Tales

There are two sides of me. One is good. The other is bad. Sure, everyone has bad and good in them, but my two halves are constantly at war with each other—I’m either extremely virtuous or terribly wicked—there is no in between.

In ancient Gaelic myth, the gods and goddesses were sent to earth, becoming known as the Tuatha Dé, God’s tribe in the form of a supernatural race. For centuries, as immortals, they ruled on the earth above humans. Then the Great Atonement happened. As people of the mound, they were stripped of the Tuatha Dé title and turned into Aos sí. They became nothing more than magickal human beings who happened to live a little longer than normal mortals.

The Aos sí are divided into two sects…Seelie or Unseelie. Dualities of light and dark instilled at birth. Though they lived in a semblance of peace, everything changed right before I was born and the factions turned against one another.

I’m half Seelie and half Unseelie, the only mixed breed ever to exist. My parents went to great lengths to hide my true identity during the wars.

I was supposed to live a normal life, the whole white picket fence and everything, but it’s all changing now. The Unseelies seek to take down the Seelies and restore themselves into power, back to the way things were on the magickal island of Sitnalta, before the Great Atonement. However, the Seelies only want to pursue balance, harmony, in all things.

And me? I’m stuck in the middle, torn between two worlds.

This is not a faerie tale.

Tempest in Disguise by Riley Bancroft
To Seelie or not to Seelie:
An interesting conundrum indeed. Romeo and Juliet and Juliet. I quite like the intrepid Juliet: Mya, who is a bit of a loose cannon. She who knows who/what she is, is not supposed to reveal it, yet threatens at every moment to let loose on the unsuspecting villain, whoever she supposes that might be. I’m not quite sure about the dark Romeo, Cole, who is bewildered by his attraction to the beautiful wildflower, yet takes advantage of her own moth to the light attraction to him. Enter Gavin; the would be protector, who I hate one moment and quite like the next. The members of the Seelie Court are pompous asses as they shout, a’ la Phantom of the Opera “Then, Let it be War between us!” I’m told the first sentence of any story should grab you, and the next 100 pages should reel you in. I was grabbed by the first sentence; at 74 pages, this novella didn't quite get a chance to reel me in, but the last sentence of the cliffhanger by design got me hook, line and sinker. I give this one four stars and I WILL be waiting as the story continues. Deep Into the Abyss Available December 2014

He angled his head lower down until their mouths were only a centimeter away. “Perhaps, you need someone to show you the way—to take control.”

Mya licked her lips and tried to ease the anxious pace of her heart as she inhaled his breaths. Her thoughts made her words come out muddled. “Or, maybe I’m the one controlling you already.”

“You like to play games, Mya?” He taunted her with his lips, so close, yet too far away.

The walls of her core clenched and released, an aching void, wanting to be filled. A sting of pleasurable pain seared her breasts and her shoulders arched when he pinched her rock hard nipple through her clothes. Her thigh muscles almost gave out as need for him ripped through her. “Do you like to play games?” she asked back in raspy voice.

“Have you ever studied psychology, Mya? When a person is nervous or unsure they basically repeat what the other person said.”

Damn it. Was she nervous? She couldn't think straight. Both halves of her warred for dominance. One side wanted him to play with her. The other wanted to out play him. He was a dark temptation for her and her downfall at the same time. To hell with it all, she let her Unseelie side rule the moment. Her hips thrust backward and she ground against his shaft. Arching her back, she titled her head up, moving her mouth closer to his. Contact. Warm, thick lips met hers and an urgent need sparked a greater want inside of her.

As she reached up behind her and twined her fingers in his hair to pull him tighter, he returned the frenzied kiss. His tongue sought hers demanding surrender in her mouth and it fueled her lust with every stroke. Every touch from him, his dominating hold over her, lit her up—like a raging fire in a forest ready to consume every tree in its path.

Mya lost herself with him, just the two of them, two bodies burning in an inferno seeking more. She melted against him and let him take the reins, following each movement of his lips and tongue, unable to get enough of him.

He fisted his hand into her hair and pulled her head back. “Take off your clothes.”

The hell you say. Her thoughts couldn't keep up with her maddening pulse. “What?” Deep down though, she knew their game led up to this defining moment.

“I think you heard me.” He tightened his hold on her. “You wanted to play, you wanted control—well, I want your surrender.” A dangerous hunger danced across his face.

The lustful glint in his eyes left her breathless, even hotter than before. She licked her lips, contemplating the seriousness of what he asked for, the taste of him lingered on her tongue. Would she be able to do, as he demanded?
