Disturbingly Beautiful Blog Tour with Exclusive Excerpt

Disturbingly Beautiful
by J. & L. Wells
Series: A Paradox In Time, #1
Genre: Historical Romance/Time Travel
Release Date: November 13, 2014

Is it really possible that somewhere in time, the perfect paradox could be created? Does romance really stand a chance, and could it ever flourish amidst so many intricacies and broken lives? How can a nineteenth-century governess unknowingly cause so much devastation?

As Nell’s world opens up, we follow her on a complex journey, on which she discovers love, loss and betrayal, and is forced to play a dangerous game from which there appears to be no escape.

An intricate family plot slowly begins to unravel, in which she finds herself centre stage. She was never supposed to leave Haunchcroft estate, and he will do everything in his power to keep her there…

Could a possible rip in time be the salvation that Nell seeks?

“I find you disturbingly beautiful,” are the contradictory words bestowed upon the governess by her master.

Mr Buchannan’s infatuation is a shadow from which Nell cannot escape. The feelings he holds for her are not reciprocated, and though his lust soon turns to love, Nell’s feelings towards him turn to hatred. Dreams and a love of literature are Nell’s only escapism from the downtrodden life she leads as a governess in the nineteenth century.

One night, an intruder on the estate catches Nell off guard, but she gives chase; a decision that leads her through an opening in time between the centuries, where she finds equality, true friendship and a completely different outlook on life.

Despite using this to her advantage to escape the advances of her unwanted suitor, she is somewhat perturbed when she unexpectedly finds him at her side in the twenty-first century. Will love conquer all, or will time always stand in their way?

As Nell rolled down her window and breathed in the sea air, Spencer informed them that they would have the beach to themselves for the night, since it had been closed due to falling rocks. Nell turned to look out of the car’s back window and up at the vast cliff face. Spencer did not seem perturbed in the slightest, and informed her and Mr Buchannan that they should definitely be okay, though his eyes were evasive.

Mr Buchannan described the navy canvas tent as an unsightly carbuncle blighting the scenery, to which Nell had to laugh.

“I’ll leave you with the night,” Spencer said playfully.

Jumping back in the driver’s seat, he reversed up the narrow incline, with sand spitting up from the tyres. Nell looked up at the cloudless sky, breathing in the sea’s salty liquor. She shook her hair free, feeling the soft caress of the breeze as it waltzed across her face and shoulders.

It seemed to her that Mr Buchannan was trying to get into the spirit of things, as he had already pulled off his long boots and she could see his breeches rolled up to just below his knees. She offered her assistance willingly as he struggled to unfold a fleecy blanket and place it for them to sit on, though the breeze had other ideas and kept lifting its corners. With its antics all played out, they reclined on the coarseness of its fibres, entranced by the tide’s rolling waves as the lowering sun highlighted its journey.

Nell exhaled with contentment on feeling the cotton material of Mr Buchannan’s shirt slip across her shoulders, and she warmed instantly at the strength of his loving embrace. Sitting for a while lost in the ambience and passing of time, the two grew hungry. Mr Buchannan reached for the strap of a cool bag Spencer had left with them, filled with mouth-watering refreshments. But that was not the food of love for which Nell yearned. Pulling free from his arms, she lifted herself to her feet and reached her hands up to the narrow straps of her dress, then slid them down from her shoulders. She knew the game she played as she followed the intensity of his dreamy green eyes as the silken material fell from her tiny frame. There was not a moment she felt even the slightest ounce of embarrassment. She stood open to the elements in her near naked form; there were no frills or petticoats to cover her virtue, only sheer lace panties and a matching brassiere.

Mr Buchannan lay back unhurriedly, and Nell’s eyes caught the quick-fingered unbuttoning of his tight-fitting shirt. She gasped back her innermost desires as he revealed the perfectly toned contours of his broad ivory physique.

Without taking his eyes from her own, Mr Buchannan reached up to her awaiting hand. Teasingly she ran her tongue between her lips, smiling down. Prompted by the call of the waves, she turned briskly and ran for the unspoilt shoreline. She was unable to pick up the silence of Mr Buchannan’s steps as they gave chase. Unsteady in her footing, his arms scooped her up, and child-like she squealed as he pulled her unclad frame tightly into the tautness of his chest. As the waves leapt up and kissed at his ankles, Nell felt the release of his arm and watched as his breeches were thrown far from the water’s edge. With his long tailed shirt flailing wide, he waded deeper until the cool waves cushioned the small of Nell’s back. Her eyes rested upon the fullness of his handsome face, where the sea spray glistened like white diamond droplets as they splashed upon his cheeks.

Her heart raced beyond belief as she pawed her way up to his shoulders, clasping her arms around his neck. Like a ballerina in flight, she lifted her legs, pressing her knees boldly into the narrow physique of his waistline. She gasped as he grew beneath her. She could feel the desire in his fingertips as they released her panties, and watched as the lacy undergarments were washed out to sea. She surrendered to an uncontrollable tremble inside on feeling the hardness of his male form as it moved inside her to the rhythmical motion of the tide, and cried out at the climatic heights to which he took her. Their love making went unwatched, hidden beneath the unbinding secrets of the crashing white waves.

At their ebbing crescendo, Mr Buchannan carried her breathless body out of the darkened waters. Cradling her head in his hand, he gently lowered her onto the red tartan blanket, wrapping away her involuntary shivers.

The fruit of love is so apt, Nell thought as she felt the tickling sensation as he teased her navel with the ripest of English strawberries, licking away the fruity sweetness from her skin. His mouth slipped up her body, between the creamy soft skin of her breasts, and she exhaled loudly at the meeting of their lips, each kiss enhanced by the vibrant fragrance of fruits which volleyed between the intimate twisting of tongues. It seemed that their lips were not wanting to part.

Cossetted by the serenade of rolling waves, they were rocked into a peaceful sleep by the arms of true love. As the vibrant stars visited the night sky they smiled down from the heavens, throwing their light and a blessing upon the sleeping lovers.

Book 1: Predator & Prey
Lily works the night shift at a radio station, taking calls from forlorn and damaged souls who can't sleep. She knows their pain and they find solace in her comforting words. The city is ruthless; nameless creatures roam the streets and prey on the lost and innocent.

As she leaves work one night at the crest of dawn, Lily comes face-to-face with depravity. She is a survivor at heart, but she is unfairly outnumbered and surrenders to her fate. From the shadows an ally emerges, the mysterious and alluring, Wolf. After coming to Lily's aid, he takes her to shelter.

The immediate danger has passed, but the incident is far from over. Wolf tells Lily she is not prey, and sets off into the night with her by his side to set a wrong right. What she sees when entering the dark heart of the city will change her existence forever. Has Wolf taken on a force too big? Will Lily survive the night?

Book 2: Beast
It has been days since Lily killed the vampire responsible for her brutal attack. Now she and Wolf have been summoned by the Society to answer for her actions. Standing before the Regent, she learns she has tipped the human and supernatural scales. A new vampire is required to restore balance.

When she hears the penalty for her crime, Wolf protectively steps in and accepts a dangerous task in exchange for her freedom. He must find the rogue vampire who has been slaughtering citizens in their territory or risk losing Lily to the Society. And he only has days to do it.

As the night of reckoning fast approaches, Lily finds an unlikely advocate in a centuries-old, seductive vampire named Athene who gives her an ominous warning. Athene knows secrets about Wolf she won't divulge, which only complicates the mysterious revelation Lily has recently discovered about herself.

Screams, growls, and cries echo throughout the darkest, desolate streets of the city. The final showdown determines who is predator and who will become prey. One thing remains certain-no one escapes the night unscathed.

Beast is the much anticipated sequel to Predator & Prey by James D Horton.

Book 3: Control
Two weeks have passed since Lily became a vampire and things couldn't be worse. She is starving, out of control, and Wolf has vanished. Her maker, Athene, is patient, but fails to help Lily tame the beast within. After Lily's introduction to Society goes horribly wrong, she is sent to train with Griogar, a narcissistic vampire with questionable tactics.

A powerful member of Society, John Genosoa, has secretly arranged for Wolf's mate to return. The distraction works. Wolf and Luna's reunion is passionate, yet laced with memories of insurmountable loss. Even so, neither is able to refuse the animalistic magnetism drawing them together.

When Lily reaches a new low during a session with Griogar, Wolf reappears. She's furious, but vulnerable to his charm and follows him beneath the City. Lily finds out Wolf has spent ages chasing a legendary tale of transcendence and discovers who has been keeping him away.

Lily is forced to put aside her heartache when Genosoa's plan threatens the City's inhabitants. Genosoa's magic is strong, but not strong enough to keep the existence of vampires a secret from humans. He needs souls to sacrifice.

Wolf, Lily and Luna are dispatched by the Keeper and must act fast to stop the killing of innocents. Screams of agony and a scene of destruction greet them, but they are confronted with a much more sinister obstacle and it's too late to turn back. What begins as a battle turns into an all-out war for their very survival.

Ancient histories are told, myths are revealed and dangerous paths are taken in Control , the highly anticipated third installment in the Predator & Prey series by author James D. Horton.

Black and White Desires by Alexandra Webb

When I first set out to write Black and White it was a joke, a simple let’s see if I can do this, and then it turned into my SPE project. Something happened that I didn’t expect: I feel in love with the characters. I never really expected it to go far, but then because of contract reasons I had to send it to my publisher before I could do anything else with it. They accepted it, but because of issues with their time management and how they treat their staff and authors, I requested my rights back. They were granted back to me and I quickly went to get it out to the public.  Luckily for me, I had a great group of people behind me to help me make it happen.

Now, before you tell me that I want to be the next E.L. James. I never dreamt I’d be writing erotic romance, never mind BDSM erotic romance. It’s just something that happened. My husband and I have been in the life style for close to five or six years now. It’s something that is near and dear to my heart. That being said, just a couple notes about Black and White: It’s fiction, a BDSM relationship does not develop over a few nights or a few weeks, that’s what makes this fiction and fantasy; I’ve strived to stay true to the life style that I love so much, but I write fiction not self-help books. Please if you’re interested in the BDSM lifestyle, do your research, talk to someone who lives it, and no matter what stay safe. If you’re not interested in the lifestyle, please do not be so quick to judge.

Thank you.

Alexandra Webb

To her standards, he would qualify as a freak so I left the Dom side of him out of the conversation. "He's not a freak, he's an archeologist." I shrugged. "So I can talk history with him."
"Great, a geek, though I guess that's a step up from the other guys." She gave me a nudge. "I hope this works out for you, and if it doesn't I'll come sit at your apartment and eat loads of ice cream with you," a tradition of ours since I entered the dating scene.
"Oh look, a customer." I pushed away from the bar. The weeknights left the bar empty since it hid in the corner of a strip mall on the south side of town.  I nearly fell over when Landon walked in the door.
"Girl, you okay?" Jessica asked when I swayed.
"Yep." I tried to make sure any sign of hesitation or nervousness was out of my voice.
"You must have been swept away from his good looks." She waved to Landon. "Welcome to Forget."
Landon raised a brow and walked over to the bar, his eyes glued to my shirt. "Fitting."
"Shut it," I grumbled, and he raised his eyes to mine and I melted. “Sorry, I just wasn't expecting it to be you walking through the door. It's close to midnight, shouldn't you be sleeping?"
"You must be Landon, I'm Jessica, I interview all the boys she dates." She moved me to the side with her hips. "Tell me, are you a stalker, creep, wanted man, obsessed man, or otherwise not suited to date her."
I put a hand over my eyes as the embarrassment went on. Landon's laugh made me move my hand away to see him shake his head and grinning. "I'm none of that. Sounds like she's had an interesting dating history."
"You have no idea." I shrugged. "It just happens. I attract the weird ones." I met his gaze so he could see the humor in my eyes.
He laughed. "I'm sure I can relate to some of them. You have time for a break? I'll buy you a drink."
Jessica gave a dramatic look around the bar. "Ya know, I think we might be too busy." She winked at me. "Go ahead honey, I've got this covered. I'll make you your favorite."
"And that is?" Landon asked, standing from the stool.
Jessica laughed. "Mudslide."

”What would you like to tell everyone about you that they wouldn't already know from reading your books?” I actually took photography in high school because it had been my mom’s passion. Needless to say I didn’t have her talent.
Can you tell us your latest news?
I’ve completed my next BDSM Novel Exclusively Yours and hope to have a release date. I’m also looking at releasing Caught and Bound on it’s own here in the near future.
What inspired you to write your first book?
As Alexandra Webb, my first book actually was Black and White (even though Twisted Redemption came out first). It started out as a joke and a NaNoWriMo project. The joke was with my husband “You can totally write something better than that.” (I’ll keep from naming titles) And I snorted and said, Yeah…and that’s what I set out to do. I did it for the Self Publishing Experiment, but things got haywire. Though through everything, I fell in love with it and strived to make it the best I could before I hit the publish button.
Do you have a specific writing style?
Not really. I try to bring in similar themes, bondage, suspense of some sort, but there’s no true style. Sometimes it’s 3rd person sometimes it’s 1st person. Sometimes it’s long, sometimes short. It’s all sexy though!
How did you come up with the title?
The original title was In Black and White and it was actually an editor with a publishing company that urged me to change it to something sexier. I decided I liked it so much I’d keep it when I left the company.
“What do you want your readers to get out of your novels?”
I want my readers to get the escape they crave when they come for BDSM books, but I also want them to get a sense of how a true BDSM relationship works. I know it’s fiction, but I still strive to be as accurate to the lifestyle as I can.
“Is the book mostly fantasy or do you think these situations could actually happen?”
Now I love music just as much as reading, I normally listen to music while I am reading. Do you think that you characters have theme songs? What would they be?
“Are the experiences fact based or from your imagination?”
A little bit of both. I draw from experiences and research and take it from there. I’ll let you figure out what I have experiences with ;)
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Nope! I’m so totally in love with Erika and Landon that I wouldn’t change a thing about them.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?  Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
My current work, Exclusively Yours, is a story about a woman who had a terrifying experience in the past and it comes back to challenge her current life. It takes place in a club with a sexy detective trying to get to the bottom of some gruesome murders. The challenge for this book was that Leslie at some points is with multiple partners…this isn’t something I have experience with!
Who designed the covers?
I did! With input from people I trusted. Fun fact: It’s my picture on the cover, because it was the only picture that the people agreed on, none of the stock photos were working.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Honestly? The sex scenes. Black and White is written in first person and BDSM sex is not only about the motions of going through sex, but the emotions of the characters. Getting into her head was very emotional.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Don’t listen to the naysayers. Keep going.
I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to answer these for my readers and I. I look forward to seeing more work from you in the future.
